Navigating the market this week has been quite interesting with the S&P 500 staying above its 200-day moving average for 50 days. This means we’re in a position to make new buys, which is great because we’re almost fully invested with just 5.0% of our portfolio in cash. Interestingly, the tech sector, with its focus on chips and AI, seems to be quite popular again.
This Week’s Portfolio Moves:
We initiated new positions in several tech and industrial stocks. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is a well-known chip maker, while Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) focuses on enterprise computing solutions. Intel Corporation (INTC), another prominent player in the semiconductor industry, also joined our portfolio, as did SanDisk (SNDK), known for storage solutions, and Sterling Construction Company (STRL), which operates in the construction sector.
On the sell side, we decided to sell our positions in APA Corporation (APA) and Darling Ingredients (DAR) because they were trading below their 100-day moving averages. We also sold Valaris (VAL), which is no longer among our top-ranked stocks.
Regarding adjustments to existing positions, we added to our holdings in Keysight Technologies (KEYS), a provider of electronic design automation software, and MKS Instruments (MKSI), which supplies equipment vital for semiconductor manufacturing.
Weekly Performance Recap:
Technology remains our top sector, playing a critical role by driving performance with companies like AMD and INTC. Our top holdings right now include MACOM Technology Solutions (MTSI), Humana (HUM), and Applied Materials (AMAT). The latter—AMAT—was also our top performer this week with a 29.3% gain. Right behind AMAT, Lam Research (LRCX) and Western Digital (WDC) posted impressive gains too. However, Chord Energy (CHRD), Ciena Corporation (CIEN), and Flex (FLEX) underperformed.
Our portfolio boasted a remarkable weekly return of 11.53%, far outpacing the 2.48% return of the SPY. The model currently favors stocks in technology sectors that we’re yet to hold, like DigitalOcean (DOCN) and Dell Technologies (DELL). Keep an eye on SNDK, INTC, DOCN, DELL, and AMD as they are right at the top of our model’s rankings.
