Portfolio Update: Market Tone and Our Positioning
This past week, the broader market setting offered an interesting momentum perspective, as the S&P 500 has remained above its 200-day moving avreage for 59 days. Being almost fully invested, with just 2.9% of our portfolio in cash, reflects our confidence in the current market conditions. Interestingly, no new buys were made this week as we continue to be guided by our momentum ranking strategy inspired by Andreas Clenow’s book, Stocks On The Move.
Trades This Week: Buys, Sells, and Adjustments
Our trades this week included a significant decision to sell ON. This move came after a notable drop in the stock price on June 26. Next week, we’ll assess June’s results and it’s hard to believe the first half of the year is already gone. Additionally, we added to our existing positions in Ciena (CIEN), a network equipment provider, and TTM Technologies (TTMI), a printed circuit board manufacturer. That said, we trimmed our position in Corning (GLW), known for its specialty glass products. No new stocks were added to our holdings, given our disciplined approach tied to market signals from the S&P 500’s positioning.
Summary: Sector Insights and Performance Tally
Technology retained its spot as our top sector, often serving as a growth engine in portfolios. Within this sector, Marvell Technology (MRVL), SanDisk (SNDK), and Intel (INTC) are amongst the top-ranked stocks our model currently favors, although they’re not part of our holdings yet. Our top holdings remain Humana (HUM), Synnex (SNX), and Centene (CNC), each bringing diversification to the table. Highlighting the week’s performance, GLW was the top performer with a 31.2% gain, while TTMI lagged at -13.7%. Overall, our portfolio outperformed with a weekly return of 1.01%, compared to the S&P 500’s slight uptick of 0.03%.
