Weekly Portfolio Update: Momentum Investing and Performance Insights

This week, the S&P 500 has been trading above its 200-day moving average for a steady 127 days, maintaining a positive market regime as our Stocks on the Move strategy continues to analyze momentum. Despite no trading activity this week, we’re pleased to report that our portfolio has enjoyed a healthy gain of 5% in September. Year-to-date, we’ve achieved a notable 30% growth. It’s always nice when things go smoothly, isn’t it?

Since there were no new buys, sells, or rebalancing actions this week, our focus has been on evaluating the stocks that currently rank highest in our momentum model. While we didn’t make any moves, it’s always important to keep an eye on potential opportunities, such as top-ranked stocks like MRNA, PBF, ELF, ANF, and VEEV.

In terms of performance, healthcare remains the top sector for us, playing its typical role as a bastion of stability and growth in our portfolio. Noteworthy companies within this sector include HALO and CRL, which sit alongside PK as our top holdings. Top performers this week included QLYS, PBF, and OKTA, showing positive momentum. Meanwhile, HALO, DELL, and HAE were the week’s laggards. Looking at the bigger picture, our portfolio finished the week 5.2% up compared to SPY’s 1.0%, resulting in a clear-positive gap of +4.2 percentage points.

As we explore future possibilities and keep refining our strategy, we would love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to share your comments and insights below.
