This week’s market tone is upbeat, with the S&P 500 continuing its positive streak for 83 days, and we’re almost fully invested with just 2.2% cash in the portfolio. It looks like big tech is experiencing a rally, with good earnings reports boosting investor confidence. There’s also some hope regarding developments around the Strait of Hormuz, which might influence global markets.
This week, we initiated a new position in Middleby (MIDD), a company in the industrial sector known for manufacturing kitchen equipment. On the flip side, we parted ways with Bruker (BRKR) and BTSG after their momentum lagged behind our expectations. We added to our existing positions in Centene Corporation (CNC), Fortinet (FTNT), Park Hotels & Resorts (PK), and Synnex Corporation (SNX). Additionally, we trimmed our holdings in Humana (HUM) and UnitedHealth Group (UNH) to better align with our strategy.
Healthcare remains our top sector, playing a stabilizing role in the portfolio. Companies like CVS Health, Davita (DVA), and others in this sector offer a blend of growth and resiliency. Our current top holdings are CVS, DVA, and PK. This week’s standout performers were Datadog (DDOG) with a gain of 10.8%, Hims & Hers Health (HIMS) up by 9.7%, and Palo Alto Networks (PANW) with a 7.2% increase. On the other hand, Carpenter Technology (CRS) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) were among the weaker performers, alongside Humana.
Our portfolio’s weekly return was 1.09%, which, while decent, trailed the broader S&P 500’s 3.49%. The model currently favors top-ranked stocks including Dell Technologies (DELL), Micron Technology (MU), Datadog (DDOG), and Palo Alto Networks (PANW), hinting at a tech-centric focus.
