As the market continues to evolve, we find ourselves 88 days above the S&P 500’s 200-day moving average. This supports our confidence in the momentum strategy outlined by Andreas Clenow in ‘Stocks On The Move’. The strategy uses an adjusted slope ranking to determine which stocks make it into the portfolio, with a focus on maintaining flexibility. Thankfully, with a modest cash share of 0.7%, we’re effectively fully invested, allowing for quick adaptations as the market shifts.
In the past week, we’ve initiated new positions in several promising names. AVTR, a player in the life sciences tools and services sector, joins the portfolio along with CRWD, famed for its cybersecurity solutions. NTAP, known for providing enterprise-level storage and data management, is now part of our holdings. We also bought into OKTA and QLYS, both specializing in cybersecurity, and SN, focusing on technology services. Unfortunately, we had to part ways with DDOG, DVA, and SNX, primarily due to their slipping momentum ranks; DVA, in particular, faced a significant decline. Additionally, we trimmed our holdings in CVS and MIDD to maintain alignment with our investment guidelines.
Highlighting our strategy, Technology stands out as our top sector, given its potential for significant growth. Companies such as CRWD and OKTA exemplify this sector’s importance in our portfolio. In terms of top holdings, we continue to maintain a substantial investment in PK, VNO, and ATI. Notable performances this week included ATI surging by 21.7%, PANW climbing 16.0%, and HIMS advancing 14.4%. On the downside, CVS decreased by 8.4%, ILMN fell by 6.5%, and PK declined 3.7%. Our portfolio’s weekly return outpaced the SPY, with a return of 4.82% compared to the SPY’s 3.57%. Our ranking model currently favors stocks we don’t yet hold, including DELL, PANW, OKTA, DDOG, and QLYS.
